This is a museum quality reproduction in sterling silver of the pin worn by members of the First Aero Squadron. The original is in the collection of the Smithsonian. The squadron was organized as an observation unit and arrived at Ourches, France on April 4, 1918.  They were engaged in the Toul Sector, Chateau-Thierry, St. Mihiel and both the 1st and 2nd Argonne-Meuse offensive. They were assigned to the occupation force on Nov 20, 1918. The squadron suffered 15 killed, 8 wounded, 2 prisoners and 1 missing. They engaged in 94 combats and shot down 13 enemy aircraft. This is the same 1st Aero Squadron that saw action on the Mexican border.  This badge is approximately 1 inch in diameter.
