This is a very rare unofficial Photographer wing. This is an excellent reproduction in sterling silver with a 24K gold plate of this WWII Navy Wing. Early in 1942, the first class of Naval aviators graduating the Navy Photo Recon school at Anacostia had a specialty wing designed and produced in very limited numbers. Shortly thereafter, the US Navy determined they would not distinguish the tasking of specific specializations would not be reflected in the design of the wing as was done with the US Army Air Force and the design was discontinued. Hallmarked sterling and  Fischer’s of New York.  Near the end of the war someone ordered a group of 24 of these wings from Fischers in this slightly smaller size. The War ended and they never picked them up. So it is very rare to see one of these and therefore they are not in many collections. The originals were made by Charles Fischer, NY under contract with Eastman Kodak who conducted a school for USN Aerial Photographers. In turn, Eastman gave the badges to the graduates of its school.
