This is a British designed US Officers Hat Badge museum quality reproduction. You can see the top of the badge where the stars are is oval iin shape. In the US designed badge it is a circle design as in the Great Seal of the US. Who knows why they are different. This museum quality reproduction is of one in sterling, which was not a common item at that time.
