In WWI many of the Pilots and Observers had wings made by local jewelers and insignia companies. The standard military issue wings were cloth and did not hold up. The lack of specific standards resulted in many designs such as this one with an O that is very different. This 1/2 wing is 2 1/4 inches wide and is mounted on a brass plate with wool covering. The O and wing are sterling silver.
