In 1921 the Airship Pilot Badge (while it looks like a wing it was never officially called that) was introduced by the US Army. This is a very well made sterling silver museum quality reproduction of that badge 1 3/8 inch with pinback. This size was worn on the Overseas Hat or given to a mother of girlfriend as a sweetheart pin. The 1 3/8 inch was never official so not many of these badges would have been made and are missing from many collections after all how many Airship Captains were there. Actually there were about 150. Also it is interesting to note that 6 know designs existed of this badge. The badge was abolished on Feb. 20, 1940. While not an original here is a chance to get one that is sterling. People often try and sell this badge as a Zeppelin Badge, which is not. Zeppelin was used by Germans and the word Airship and Blimp by the US.
